Piercing Aftercare Advice

FOR BODY PIERCINGS

 

  • You can make a saline solution at home, you need to make sure you have sea salt, then just put a third of a teaspoon of it into a cup and add boiled water. Stir with a spoon to dissolve the salt, then wait for it to cool until it's luke warm.

 

  • Then just use a cotton bud or gauze to gently soak your piercing for 5-10 minutes to remove any matter that may have collected around the jewellery, twice a day, for the first two weeks and then once a day for the next 2 weeks. then as necessary.

  • Make sure your hands are clean before you touch or move your new piercing.

​

  • Do not play with your new piercing and try not to turn it too much, as this can prolong the healing process or could cause infection, just a gentle wiggle of the jewellery is all that is needed.

​

  • For ear piercings and facial piercings try and keep your hair away or tied up, to avoid it getting caught in the piercing also try to avoid make-up and hair styling products coming into contact with the piercing.

​

  • For body piercings make sure you do not have clothing too tight or pressing on the piercing area.

​

FOR ORAL PIERCINGS

​

  • To help prevent a build up of bacteria, you can use a non-alcohol mouth rinse twice a day for the first week.

​

  • Rinse your mouth with plain water after every meal for the first week, to help prevent food getting lodged.

​

  • Avoid spicy foods, these can cause irritation and chewy foods could get stuck on the jewellery and pull, which could cause damage to the piercing site or infection. Try and avoid smoking and kissing until the piercing site has had chance to heal.

​

  • Plaque and calcite's can form on the jewellery, this is normal.  To clean it off support one end of the jewellery while cleaning the other with a toothbrush.  Repeat for the other end.

​

  • Soreness for swelling that may occur can be reduced by gently sucking on crushed ice, ice cream milkshakes and ice lollies. it is common for tongues to swell for the first few days after piercing. This is why a longer bar is used first, after the swelling has gone down, the bar is replaced with an appropriate shorter bar.

​

  • Listen to your body when exercising or engaging in sexual activity, if it hurts your piercing, dont do it....
